Messianic Church Livestream 10-22-22 | Moped of Malice – How Envy is Holding You Back From Your Purpose

As people, we tend to give weight to some sins while minimizing others, leaving some of the most dangerous and destructive sins “acceptable” in our lives. I wonder if we intentionally tip the scales in favor of sins we would rather not struggle with daily and exalt our self-defined righteousness with pride of not being a murderer, thief, or adulterer. If this is the pattern we have become used to, we may be surprised when we read the Bible and see one specific sin that permeates from the beginning until the end; envy.

Rightfully dubbed “The Green-Eyed Monster,” Envy can be found in many of the stories told in both the Old and New Testaments. From Adam and Eve’s decision to “have what God had,” Cain’s malice manifest in jealousy of his brother, and the jealous feud between Rachel and Leah, to the Suicidal tantrum of Jonah, the query of Peter about John and Paul’s assertion that “fan-boy” jealously toward Bible teachers is the fruit of the flesh. Envy sits high above many sins we would gladly repent of.

What does the Bible teach us about envy, entitlement, and bitterness, and how can we free ourselves from the things holding us back in walking in our Godly purpose? What does Yeshua teach us about how we are to navigate a world that encourages “keeping up with the Joneses” and uses our possessions as a scale of success?
