Excercising Your Rights as a Christian & 1 Corinthians 8

In Paul’s letter to Corinth, Paul addressed concerning behavior that was causing division in the church community. The division was based on many things, but mainly a lack of wisdom and arrogance. There were those in the fellowship that thought they had the freedom to “exercise their rights” (1 Cor 8:9) in practicing risky behavior due to their knowledge of Yeshua, God’s Grace, and the scriptures. On the other side, some could not understand why a believer would ever engage in risky behavior that could lead to idolatry and destruction in any capacity. This caused contempt, fueled bitterness and forced Paul to address the lack of wisdom on both sides of this dividing line. As believers, what freedoms do we have in the world, and do we ever think about how they could affect others in their walk? On the flip side, in our pursuit of strict holiness, do we ever stop and think that we may be minimizing the grandness of God’s love, cutting ourselves off from the world we were called to reach? Where is the balance between enjoying life as a Christian and practicing restraint?
SPOILER: Paul never tells us…
Join us this Saturday, October 29th, at 11:00 AM EST for services at Founded in Truth Fellowship. We are a Messianic Church located at 1689 Springsteen Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730. All are welcome to worship, pray, and dive into God’s Word alongside us. Never been to a Messianic Church before? No problem. We believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God, and the world’s Savior. We meet on Saturdays because we see the blessing in worshiping on the Biblical Sabbath as a sign of the eternal rest found in Jesus Himself.
