Who Told You That You Were - Message on Identity and the Holy Spirit

Introduction: Receiving God’s Word

The teaching begins with an acknowledgment of God’s presence and a prayer for the Holy Spirit (referred to as Ruach) to speak and move through the speaker. The speaker expresses nervousness yet commits to always saying yes to God’s call to be used. The initial prompt for this message came from a conversation with Matt, which led the speaker to reflect on the impactful experiences of sharing truth with women in jail. This highlights a central theme: the power of truth to transform lives. The speaker desires to embody truth, wearing it like a corset that shapes and beautifies. This commitment involves studying God’s word, which hasn’t always been easy, as illustrated by the speaker’s recent job loss. Despite personal challenges as a sole provider, the speaker’s faith in God remains steadfast.

God’s Unchanging Plan Amidst Life’s Changes

Even though the speaker teaches about change, a core belief is that God never changes. He always has a plan and a purpose for each individual, and these divine purposes will manifest through those aligned with Him. The trials faced in life are not solely about the individual experiencing them; they often hold lessons for others intertwined in their lives. The speaker shares a personal experience of being fired twice, including a recent event. While initially feeling negative, the speaker perceived these events as God repositioning them for something new. A past job change from working at the school district for 17 years to selling insurance for five years is highlighted as a pivotal period where the speaker’s relationship with God deepened.

Discovering a Personal Relationship with Yehovah

Growing up in a religious household with a Baptist preacher father, the speaker always had a love for the Lord. However, it was during the five years in the insurance business that the speaker truly came to know “this great Yehovah God.” This period is referred to as a personal “tabernacle,” a place of seeking and encountering God. In their living room, the speaker laid down personal dreams and desires, trading them for God’s dreams. This involved releasing preconceived notions and doctrines to understand God’s true identity and, consequently, their own. The speaker learned that God has an audacious love and even “likes” them. This newfound understanding shifted away from a perception of a judgmental God to one who understands human frailties and desires connection.

The Discipleship of Prayer and the Holy Spirit

This five-year period was like a discipleship training class, focused on a personal relationship with God and His word. When it came to prayer, the speaker initially felt hesitant but desired to operate in that realm. A key realization was that a “holy language” could not reside in a “willfully unholy vessel,” leading to the speaker addressing personal habits. The speaker fervently prayed for the ability to pray for their children in a way the enemy could not understand. This desire expanded to praying for other people’s children, leading to a powerful encounter where the speaker committed to praying anytime, anywhere, for anyone. This gift of praying in what seemed like “gibberish” manifested during a difficult time when the speaker’s son was going to jail. This experience solidified the speaker’s commitment to prayer and highlighted the idea that God works in unexpected ways and times. The world needs people with a different perspective on God, with a strong relationship that others will desire.

The Power of Worship

The speaker emphasizes the power of worship and recounts a “worship training session” during those five years. An anecdote is shared about a customer who entered the office while the speaker was intensely worshipping. Despite the speaker stating the office was not yet open, the worship continued, leading to the customer experiencing peace and feeling the need to rest. This illustrates how worship can impact the atmosphere and minister to others, even without spoken words. The office was considered a “tabernacle,” a place of seeking God intimately. The speaker pursued God with the passion of a lover, a damaged child seeking a father, and an orphan needing a nurturing mother. This pursuit led to the understanding of God as El Shaddai, the God of many breasts, who can nurture and love like a mother.

Understanding the Prophetic and Deliverance

The teaching delves into the concept of God as a prophetic God, highlighting examples from the Bible where God revealed future events. The speaker also expresses a desire to be prophetic, to offer encouraging words from God to others. This includes wanting to be a “seer,” someone who can see in the supernatural realm. However, the speaker understands the importance of maturity in discerning when and what prophetic insights to share. The topic of deliverance is also addressed, initially causing apprehension due to misconceptions about dramatic events. The speaker clarifies that deliverance is essentially healing from things that have happened in one’s life.

Knowing God to Know Ourselves and Our Gifts

It is crucial to know God better to know ourselves better. Believers need to recognize the multiple gifts they carry. For those with the gift of giving, it’s important to seek God’s guidance before giving. Repentance is discussed, moving beyond a negative perception to understand its true meaning: a change of heart (Greek) and a return to the Creator (Hebrew). With the gifts we possess, we are called to simply turn to God and ask how He wants us to use them.

God’s Timing and Purpose in Life’s Journey

Life in this realm will not always bring the fullness of our created potential, but walking with and seeking God will lead to revelation. This aligns with Deuteronomy 29:29, which speaks of hidden things belonging to God but revealed things being for us and our children.

Our Identity as Image Bearers of the King

An encounter with a Jewish woman named Miss Elaine broadened the speaker’s understanding of faith and led to an invitation to Pesach (Passover). This was a significant experience, described as a first date with Christ, leading to a greater understanding of the feasts and God’s plan. The speaker emphasizes that every person has purpose and is a perfectly designed image bearer of the King of Kings, with the ability to carry God’s presence (Ruach) into any room.
